Performance Creative Intern, AI Video Ads

About Wellspoken

Wellspoken is an AI app that helps people communicate more clearly in meetings, interviews, and everyday conversations. Hundreds of thousands of people use it, and our organic video content reaches millions of viewers each month.

We're a small, profitable team in Richmond, VA, building a much larger paid creative engine with AI-native advertising workflows.

Why this role

You'll own the entire creative loop: research, hypothesis, concept, script, production, testing, analysis, and iteration. Your work can move from an idea to a live experiment in front of real customers within days.

The core question is simple: what should we make next, and why? You'll use customer insight, creative judgment, and performance data to answer it.

What you'll do

  • Research customers, competitors, reviews, comments, ad libraries, and emerging creative formats to find ideas worth testing.
  • Turn customer problems into persuasive concepts, hooks, and 15 to 60 second scripts.
  • Produce finished or testable ads with AI video, images, voice, avatars, product footage, motion, captions, and editing tools.
  • Design structured experiments that isolate the concept, hook, script, visual execution, actor, product reveal, or call to action.
  • Read performance signals such as hook rate, retention, click-through rate, conversion, and cost per acquisition, then turn the learning into the next creative batch.

The mindset

Creative work breaks constantly. Tools fail, executions miss, and most ads never become winners. We want someone who treats every failure as a debugging problem and keeps pushing until the idea works or the evidence points somewhere better.

  • Think from first principles. Understand why other attempts struggled, then find a sharper path through the problem.
  • Stay resourceful when there is no playbook. Learn the tool, build the workflow, and make the idea real.
  • Pair strong opinions with evidence, and update your view when the results change.
  • Care about the details, from one unnatural sentence to a cut that lands half a second late.
  • Bring both creative judgment and analytical discipline.

Requirements

These are hard requirements. We review the portfolio or reel first.

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a college or university in Virginia.
  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Available for at least 20 hours per week on average. We plan flexibly around classes, exams, and other commitments, so some weeks may be more or less.
  • A portfolio or reel with 2 to 4 strong samples. Include at least one advertisement or AI-generated video and tell us what you personally made.
  • The writing, judgment, and persistence to take a creative idea from a rough hypothesis to a finished test.

Helpful experience

Any of these are useful signals. Strong self-directed work can carry more weight than a previous marketing internship.

  • Writing scripts, short-form content, or advertising copy.
  • Making ads, films, edited videos, motion graphics, or internet projects.
  • Using AI video, image, voice, avatar, or creative coding tools.
  • Running a TikTok, Instagram, YouTube channel, startup, app, newsletter, or e-commerce project.
  • Familiarity with Meta, TikTok, or YouTube advertising and performance metrics.

Compensation & schedule

  • $40 to $50 per hour.
  • Part-time, with an average commitment of at least 20 hours per week.
  • Flexible scheduling around classes, exams, and other commitments. Some weeks may be more or less.
  • In person at our Richmond office if you're local, remote while you're away at school.
  • Flexible start dates year-round, with the opportunity to continue while the fit stays strong.

What you'll learn

  • Performance advertising and consumer psychology.
  • Creative strategy, copywriting, and AI-native video production.
  • Experiment design, growth analytics, and mobile app economics.
  • How to reason from real customer response and real advertising spend.
