How the Tongue Twisters drill works

  1. Set your baseline

Read a short reference paragraph aloud. This is the before measurement for your pronunciation.

  2. Work through five twisters

Each session gives you five new twisters that run from easy to hard. You see your score after each recording and get up to three attempts at each twister.

  3. Measure the change

Read the reference paragraph again. The results show your before and after scores side by side, with the change between them.

What the app scores

  • A pronunciation score out of 100

Shown after every recording, with separate scores for Accuracy, Fluency, Completeness and Prosody.

  • A word and sound breakdown

See which words and which sounds inside them cost you points, so you know exactly what to repeat.

  • Before and after

Your warm-up reading compared with your retest on the same paragraph.

A starter set of fifteen

How to practice with tongue twisters

Go slowly first. Say the line at half speed and land every consonant, especially the ones at the ends of words. Speed comes after accuracy.

Exaggerate the movement. Open your mouth wider than feels natural and let your lips and tongue do visible work.

Then build speed in steps. After three clean repetitions, speed up a little. When you start making mistakes, go back to the slower pace until the line is clean.

Notice which sounds are hardest for you, such as s and sh, th, or r and l. Repeat those lines daily.

Questions

  • Do tongue twisters help you speak more clearly?

They give you concentrated practice. A twister packs similar sounds together, so you repeat the same mouth movements many times. Use them as a warm-up and to find your hardest sounds.

  • Can I practice these fifteen in the app?

The app writes a new set of five for each session, so the lines will differ from this list. The fifteen here are for practicing on your own.

  • Can I choose the difficulty in the app?

Each session runs from easy to hard for you: two easy twisters, two medium, then a hard one.

  • How is my pronunciation scored?

After each recording the app compares what you said against the text and reports Accuracy, Fluency, Completeness and Prosody, along with a word by word breakdown.

  • Is the Tongue Twisters drill free?

Yes. Wellspoken is free to download, and the free plan includes three practices a week.
